BAPE® Unveils an Ukiyo-e Collection Blending the Beauty of Edo with Modern Streetwear

A BATHING APE® proudly unveils BAPE® × UKIYO-E, a capsule collection drawing from Ukiyo-e, the revered traditional Japanese art form and cultural heritage.

This collection aligns with the Fall/Winter 2025 season theme, “Connect with People,” focusing on the power of art to transcend eras and cultures, connecting people across generations. Embracing BAPE®’s core brand statement, “Fearless Expression,” this release introduces bold new designs that seamlessly blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary streetwear.

The collaboration draws on iconic works by two of Japan’s most acclaimed Ukiyo-e masters, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Selected pieces include The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Red Fuji from Hokusai’s “Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji” series, as well as In the Ruined Palace at SOMA and Goldfish Series: One Hundred Tales by Kuniyoshi, widely known as a “painter of the fantastic.” While each masterpiece captures the essence of Edo culture, they also pulse with a dynamic energy that perfectly resonates with today’s streetwear spirit. These Ukiyo-e artworks have been reimagined with BAPE®’s original BAPE® CAMO pattern, resulting in bold, graphic reinterpretations.

This collection includes T-shirts, crewneck sweatshirts, tote bags, tumblers, and sticker sets.

The T-shirts come in four styles, each featuring APE HEAD graphics that incorporate iconic artworks by Hokusai and Kuniyoshi. These legendary pieces are reimagined in vibrant BAPE® CAMO and framed within the APE HEAD silhouette, with the BAPE® brand name laid out in Katakana. Each design also features the artist’s rakkan (signature seal) printed on the left sleeve. Available in three colors: white, black, and navy.

All Ukiyo-e prints featured in this collection were produced under the supervision of The Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking. This collaboration breathes new life into historical masterpieces, uniting traditions and innovation through BAPE®’s distinctive design approach.
